The Campbell County Commissioners have unanimously picked former commissioner Chris Knapp to fill the Wyoming State House District 53 seat left vacant by the death earlier this month from COVID-19 of Republican Representative Roy Edwards of Gillette.
Edwards died the day before winning reelection to the Legislature, and Knapp will finish out the last 6 weeks of the current term and the new 2-year term that begins in January.
In Wyoming, the person filling a vacant seat must be from the same party with local party leaders picking a group of finalists and the county commissioners in the legislative district making the appointment from that group.
Knapp, who served 3 terms as a county commissioner from 2001-2012, was one of 3 finalists sent to the current board and interviewed in a special meeting on Monday.
