Authorities say former Nebraska Husker offensive lineman Cole Pensick died Saturday morning when his pickup crashed into trees in rural Polk County in the eastern part of the state.
The Polk County Sheriff’s office says the 32-year old Pensick’s pickup went through a stop sign at a T-intersection, left the road, and came to rest in trees about 14 miles southwest of Columbus. He was pronounced dead at the scene 6:45 AM crash.
Pensick was a 2nd-Team All-Big Ten coaches selection as a senior in 2013 as a key member of the offensive line that helped the Huskers become one of the Big Ten’s top rushing teams.
Pensick was one of at least 2 traffic fatalities in Nebraska over the weekend. Omaha police say a driver apparently lost control of his car Sunday and crashed into a home.
Emergency crews arrived just after 5 a-m and found the driver dead and alone. His identity has not been released and the cause of the crash is under investigation.
