Former UW President Now Permanent President Of BHSU

SPEARFISH, S.D. (AP) – Take the word “interim” off the title of Black Hills State University Interim President Dr Laurie Nichols; the South Dakota Board of Regents is giving her the job on a permanent basis. BHSU is the third largest university in South Dakota.

Nichols, president of the University of Wyoming for 3 years until her contract was not renewed earlier this year, has been the temporary president at Black Hills State since July, when she replaced the Tom Jackson Jr, who left Spearfish to be president of Humboldt State University in California.

Nichols says she’s excited to be able to have a longer and more permanent view of providing leadership at Black Hills State.

She appreciates the confidence that the Regents and Executive Director
Paul Beran have shown in her, and says she “looks forward to working with the campus and community to create a positive future for BHSU.”

Nichols was one of the three finalists last month to become president of the University of North Dakota.
