Photo by Kerri RemppSioux County looked to have their first win in hand last Friday with a 28-18 lead as the fourth quarter began, only to see Minatare race from behind to snatch the victory. The Warriors put points on the board first, scoring on a pass from Tucker Monroe to Shane Gluth just two minutes after the game started for an 8-0 lead. Minatare took 12 seconds to score to pull within two, however. The teams repeated the pattern, with Sioux County’s Monroe connecting with Michael Sanderson a minute and a half later for a 14-6 lead only to see Minatare score 40 seconds later to end the first quarter 14-12.Scoring was scarce in the second quarter, with a single touchdown by Sioux County on another Monroe-Sanderson pairing for a 22-12 half-time score in favor of the Warriors. Minatare opened the third with a touchdown, but the Warriors’ Leif Meidell ran in for a TD on the other end for the 28-18 third quarter lead.Minatare used the fourth quarter wisely, however, scoring twice in the first two and half minutes to take a 30-28 lead and added another mid-way through the quarter to put them up 36-28. Sioux County’s Monroe connected with Meidell with three minutes remaining to tie the game at 36. The score remained knotted up until Minatare broke the end zone with 29 seconds left for a 44-36 victory.Minatare had 296 rushing yards and 28 passing yards in the contest, while Sioux County 242 yards through the air and 75 rushing yards.
