Free Veterans Day Cave Tours At Wind Cave NP

A number of area communities are holding Veterans Day programs, many of them at schools.

In Chadron, the Veterans Day program is organized and led by the Middle School 8th grade class. It’s at 10:00 in the High School Auditorium and is free an open to the public

This year’s program honors the National Guard and the speaker is Colby McCoy, who is retiring next spring from the Chadron-based Nebraska National Guard 1057th Military Police Company.

After the program at 11:30, the Chadron American Legion Auxiliary is offering a free-will donation Veterans Day lunch at the Legion Hall. It, too, is open to the public.

Wind Cave National Park is honoring veterans in a different way. Chief of Interpretation Tom Farrell says the park is offering free cave tours to everyone.

Cave Tours remain very popular with tickets on a first-come, first-served basis so Farrell recommends coming early.

Farrell recommends sturdy shoes and a light coat, sweater, or sweatshirt for the cave tours.
