Gordon-Rushville School Incumbents Advance, But Back In The Pack

The only contested local race in Sheridan County was for the Gordon-Rushville School Board with a whopping 12 candidates hoping for one of the 6 spots on the general election ballot for 3 seats.

The incumbents on the ballot were among those advancing to November, but they were in the middle of the pack. Kathleen Willnerd finished 4th with 316 votes and Sherry Retzlaff was 5th with 301.

Garnering the most votes, 372, was Seth Tausen, followed by Tyler Banks with 346 and Carrie Child at 320. The last candidate to advance was Cassie Craven with 292 votes, 13 more than Jason Gantz.

Sheridan County Clerk Sindy Coburn reports a 36.5% turnout – 44.7% for Republicans, 17.4% for Democrats, 16.1% for the Libertarian Party, and 13.1% for independents.

The counting of ballots took longer than in the last few elections because of a problem with the scanner. Coburn says that partway through the run, trouble developed with the tensioners that move the ballots.

Adjustments were made after consulting with a technician, but all the ballots tallied by then had to be re-run. Even with the delay, Coburn and her crew were home by 10:30.
