The South Dakota Highway Patrol has released the name of the man killed when he was hit by a car while crossing Hwy 18 between Hot Springs and Maverick Junction Monday afternoon.

The identity of 82-year old Roger Klein of Hot Springs had been withheld pending notification of family.

The Highway Patrol says 72-year old Kathryn Flock of Buffalo Gap was eastbound about a mile west of Maverick Junction when she crested a hill and saw Klein walking across the highway.

Flock told troopers she attempted to avoid Klein, but still hit him with the front passenger side of her car. He died at the scene of the accident while Flock, who was wearing a seat belt, was unharmed.
