WASHINGTON, D.C. (AP) – Wyoming Congresswoman Liz Cheney, House GOP Conference chair and daughter of former vice president Dick Cheney, apparently isn’t conservative enough or supportive enough of President Trump for some House Republicans.
A small group of them confronted Cheney in a closed door meeting Tuesday, with sources saying they complained she was disloyal to Trump because of her support of Dr Anthony Fauci and for a primary challenger to a fellow GOP lawmaker.
One of the people familiar with the exchange says Cheney didn’t back down in the meeting and did not apologize for breaking with Trump.
The confrontation comes as Republicans in Congress have been somewhat split on the president’s response to the coronavirus pandemic.
