Human Remains Found In Belle Fourche House Fire

South Dakota authorities say human remains were found inside a burning home near Belle Fourche early Sunday morning.

The Butte County Sheriff’s Office says when Belle Fourche firefighters began putting out the flames at the house, they discovered the remains inside. No details have been released about the remains, including gender.

The sheriff’s office requested the South Dakota Dept of Criminal Investigation to take over the lead role in the case to try to determine the nature of the fire and the death.

DCI agents were at the scene later in the day and conducted a search of the premises, interviewed witnesses and executed a search warrant at that location.

Aiding the DCI in the investigation either on Saturday or in a continuing capacity are the Butte County Sheriff’s Office, South Dakota Highway Patrol, the State Fire Marshal’s Office, and the Belle Fourche Police Department.
