Huskers Host Maine To Open Men’s Basketball Season

The Nebraska men’s basketball team tips off the 2022-23 season, the 127th for the program, tonight at 6:00 MT home against Maine. It’s the first-ever meeting between the programs.

Nebraska had two exhibition contests and went 1-1, defeating Chadron State 87-60 on Oct. 23 before falling at Colorado 72-61 in a charity exhibition on Oct. 30.

Husker coach Fred Hoiberg, in his 4th season, has a new-look roster with one starter and 3 top reserves from last season joined by 9 new faces, 6 scholarship and 3 walk-ons Of the 11 players who saw action against Colorado, 8 had not played a regular-season game at NU.

Hoiberg’s staff is also different with assistants Adam Howard and Ernie Zeigler coming in along with Director of Player Development Emmanuel Tommy.

Maine has a retooled roster. First-year coach Chris Markwood, a former player for the Black Bears who spent last season as an assistant at Boston College, has 2 starters and 7 other players back from last year and 8 new players.
