Ilene Kubo

Funeral services for 88-year old Ilene Kubo will be Friday, November 6, 2020 at 10:00 AM at Chamberlain Chapel in Chadron, NE, with Dr. Russ Seger officiating.

Burial will follow at the Hay Springs City Cemetery in Hay Springs, NE.

Visitation will be Thursday, November 5, 2020 from 5-8 PM at Chamberlain Chapel in Chadron.

A memorial has been established for the Chadron Head Start Program. Donations can be sent to Chamberlain Chapel, PO Box 970, Chadron, Ne 69337.

Ilene Kubo was born on March 22, 1932 in Hay Springs and passed away on November 2, 2020 at Monument Rehab and Care Center in Scottsbluff, NE.

Ilene graduated from Hay Springs High School in 1950 after having married Kenneth Kubo Sr on November 25, 1949. To this union 5 children were born, Kaylene, Kenneth Jr, Stephen, Kevin, and Kim.

The family moved from the Beaver Valley area north of Hay Springs in 1954 and have called Chadron home since that time.

Ilene became employed in the Head Start program in 1967 as a cook and then spent the next 36 years as a cook and then as the Nutrition Coordinator to many young children. She was affectionately known as “Cooker,” and was loved for the birthday cakes she made for the kids.

The family became members of the Community of Christ Church in the 1950’s and Ilene became active in the Church in various Priesthood positions, women’s leader, and minister. Her last office was as an Elder.

Kenneth Sr died on August 4, 2002, son Kim passed in a car accident on February 15, 2010, and son Kenneth Jr died on May 14, 2017.

Also preceding her in death besides her husband and two sons are her parents, infant brother Carlyle, brother Dennis, sister Raylene Drabbles, daughter-in-law Barbara and sister-in-law Jane Preble.

Ilene is survived by her children Kaylene (Benny) Martin, Stephen, Kevin, daughter-in-law Dana, Sister Jennie Wasserburger, brother Charles Preble, brother-in-law Gary, sister-in-law Bev, 11 grandchildren- Michelle (Corby), Stefani (Charith), Kevin M (Nadina), Amy (Ryan), Heidi (James), Malissa, Kayla (Andrew), Amanda (Keith), Marie, Drew, and Serena (Colton). 12 great-grandchildren- Travis (Kristina), Wade, Jenny, Jasmine, Hailey, Kyra, Magan, Talan, Noah, Mariah, Adrian, and Melanie. One great-great grandson, Brecken, numerous nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
