Today is election day across the country with the polls in Nebraska, Wyoming, and South Dakota all open from 7 AM to 7 PM.
Dawes County has no polling places with all elections using only mail-in or drop-off ballots for several years.
Any Dawes County voter who hasn’t returned their ballot yet must use the special ballot drop-box at the east entrance of the courthouse in Chadron before 7:00 PM or their vote won’t be counted.
We will have the results of local and statewide races this evening, but Dawes County Clerk Cheryl Feist doesn’t expect to release her first preliminary totals until around 8:30 with other local counties expecting a similar timeline.
