Jean Rounds, wife of South Dakota U-S Senator and former governor Mike Rounds is having surgery after the discovery of a malignancy in the area of a malignant tumor treated last year.
The malignancy was discovered earlier this week at her regular 90-day checkup at the Mayo Clinic in Minnesota. The surgical procedure, known as ablation, is set for this morning at Mayo.
Doctors found a malignant, high-grade, aggressive tumor near her sciatic nerve in May of last year. She underwent 6 rounds of chemo, surgery to remove the remaining portion of her tumor, and radiation treatments which were completed in February.
The Rounds issued a statement Thursday says that “while this is not the news we had hoped for, we are thankful the doctors discovered the malignancy at an early stage.”
The couple also said that while the doctors are confident today’s procedure will be a success, the family would appreciate prayers – adding that they continue to be grateful for the support and prayers of so many throughout this difficult time.
