A Mass of Christian Burial for 76-year old Joanne Cuny will be held Saturday, November 6, 2021 at 10:00 at St Isaac Jogues Catholic Church in Rapid City, SD, with Fathers Ed Witt, S.J. & Ron Seminara, S.J., officiating.
Burial is at St Stephen’s Catholic Cemetery in Kyle, SD
Rosary services will be Friday, November 5, 2021 at 7:00, also at St Isaac Jogues Catholic Church in Rapid City, preceded by a meal at 5:30 PM at the Mother Butler Center near the church.
Joanne Carol Cuny was born on September 4, 1945 in Pine Ridge, SD, to Henry and Grace (Giago) Garnette. Joanne made her journey to the Spirit World on September 18, 2021 at the St. Alexius Medical Center in Bismarck, ND.
Joanne attended grade school and high school at Holy Rosary Mission in Pine Ridge, where she was a cheerleader.
She married Thomas Cuny, her one true love, on November 26, 1966. Together, they lived and ranched near Cuny Table, SD until his passing in August of 1971.
Joanne moved to Rapid City, SD and raised their two daughters, Faye and Susie. Joanne held various jobs, including Family Thrift Center, Sioux San Hospital, and The Chiesman Center.
Joanne enjoyed spending time with her friends and family; she had a gift of gab and loved to laugh. Her door was always open to anybody in need and her home was known as the “no budget inn”.
She enjoyed playing cards, aggravation, and bingo. She loved being a grandma and spent as much time as she could with her grandchildren.
Joanne could cook for an army; If there was an event or family gathering she was always willing to help get the job done.
If you had a question about anything, she was the person to call. Joanne was such a caring and loving person that touched the lives of so many people.
Joanne is survived by her daughters Faye Foss of Bismarck and Susan Fire Cloud of Sioux Falls, SD; sister Elizabeth Anderson of Sturgis, SD; twin brother Joey Garnette of Pine Ridge and brother, James “Heavy” Garnette of Hot Springs, SD; grandchildren Alicia Cuny and Thomas Foss both of Bismarck, Trenton Fire Cloud and Trinity Fire Cloud of Cache, OK, and Grace Fire Cloud of Sioux Falls; great-grandchildren Vanessa Cuny, Lily Foss, and Clara Foss all of Bismarc.
Joanne was preceded in death by her parents, Henry & Grace (Giago) Garnette; spouse Thomas Cuny; brothers Patrick Garnette, William Garnette, Duane “Frosty” Garnette, and Darrel Garnette; sister Luella Garnette.
Urn bearer will be Thomas Foss.
Honorary pallbearers will be all friends & relatives.
