After several frustrating weeks of seeing rainstorms miss Chadron, the city had a record-breaking downpour last night that cut the year’s precipitation shortfall by about half.
The KCSR/KBPY/Chadrad Communications offices measured 1.88” of rain in less than 4 hours last night after having had just 22-hundreths of an inch in the previous 17 days this month. Even so, the year-to-date total at the offices is 2.62” below average.
The spotty nature of the weather in this was also evident. The Chadron airport, only about 5 miles west of the city, got only .53 of inch and remains nearly 4” below normal.
Last night’s storms did produce localized flooding in Chadron and low-lying areas of the country, but there have been no reports of serious damage or injuries.
