The latest edition of the national Click It or Ticket seat belt campaign begins Monday and runs through the Sunday after Thanksgiving.
It kicks off with the Border to Border (B2B) initiative, a 1-day national seat belt awareness event coordinated by participating state highway safety offices.
B2B aims to increase law enforcement participation by coordinating highly visible seat belt enforcement and providing seat belt fact sheets for drivers at heavily traveled, highly visible state border checkpoints.
The Nebraska Dept of Transportation’s Traffic Safety Office is once again providing grants to dozens of local law enforcement agencies to cover the overtime costs of putting more officers on the road for the 2 weeks.
Although all violations will be cited, the focus will be on seatbelt and child restraint violations with officers taking a no-excuses approach to seat belt law enforcement, writing citations day and night.
Seat belt violations are a secondary offense in Nebraska, meaning they can’t be the only reason for a stop. The fine is $25 on top of the fine and court costs for the other violation.
