Legislative Session To Resume July 20 Posted by John Axtell Date: May 18, 2020 2 Views LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) – Speaker of the Nebraska Legislature Jim Scheer says this year’s session, in recess for more than 2 months because of the coronavirus limits, will resume July 20 and meet every weekday until Aug 13 except for Aug 7 and 10. There are 17 days left in the 60 day session Before the pandemic, a big showdown had been looming over property tax relief and a new business incentive package to replace an expiring package. Governor Pete Ricketts warned after hearing Scheer’s announcement that the economic impact of the pandemic will likely lead to significant state budget cuts and force lawmakers to settle for much smaller approaches to property taxes and business incentives. On Friday, the Nebraska Dept of Revenue reported a sharp decline in state tax collections last month with warnings that next year’s personal and corporate income tax revenue will be much lower than currently expected.
