Funeral services for 70-year old  Leonard Janis Jr are Tues, Jan 11, 2022 at 11:00, but have been moved from the Little Wound House of Prayer in Kyle, SD, to the TNT Center in Wanblee, SD.

Traditional Lakota services will still be led by Wilbur “Chub” White Mouse

Burial is at St Stephen’s Catholic Cemetery in Kyle.

A one-night wake service starts Mon, Jan 10, at 2:00, but now also at the TNT Center in Wanblee.

Leonard Leroy Janis, Jr. was born on July 15, 1951 in Box Elder, SD to Leonard Janis, Sr. and Myrtle Two Crow.  Leonard, Jr. made his journey to the Spirit World on December 31, 2021 at his home in Hisle, SD.

Leonard is survived by his wife of 38 years, Valentina Janis; children, Leonard Janis III, Lynell Janis, Bonnie Janis, Shante Gilbert, and Kane Gilbert; cousins, Jerry Two Bulls, Amelia Janis-Black Bear, Marlene Janis, Johnathan Long Soldier, Carol Two Crow, Robert Two Crow, and Sandra Janis; step brother, Benjamin Sitting Up; step children, Jonathan White Magpie, Kelly Escamilla, Sabrina Escamilla, Rudy Escamilla, Mervyn Gilbert, and Mamie Gilbert; hunka children, John Stands By Ear, Kathy Campbell, Morris Shannchappo, George Campana, William Clinger, Priscilla Perez, Michelle Saby, and Monica; nieces & nephews, Hope Conquering Bear-Bettelyoun, John Conquering Bear-Janis, Richard Conquering Bear, Irvin Salway; and brother in laws, David Conquering Bear and John Conquering Bear.

Leonard was preceded in death by his parents, Leonard, Sr. and Myrtle (Two Crow) Janis; uncles, Chester Janis, Norman Janis, Cleveland Janis, David Janis, Seymour Rouillard, Lloyd Long Soldier, Eugene Long Soldier, and Jacob Two Bulls; aunts, Amelia Two Bulls, Beatrice Janis, Annie Janis, Jane Rouillard, Stella Janis, Florita Pumpkin Seed, and Eliza Morrison; cousins, Benjamin Janis, Lloyd Janis, Clarence Janis, Charlee Janis, Calvin Pumpkin Seed, Belva Janis-Young, and Linda Janis; sister, Ruth Janis; and nephews, Seth Salway, and Benjamin Long Wolf.

Pallbearers will be Jeremy Weston, Joseph Lends His Horse, Jonathan Lends His Horse, Dave Gotheridge, Jim Knutz, Russell Fly, Alvin Frost, Ulysses Rodriguez, and Fred Bagola, Jr.  

Honorary pallbearers will be all grandchildren, friends, & relatives.
