Lincoln Fire Dept Rescues Ice Fisherman Who Broke Through Ice

A fisherman who broke through the ice of a lake in Lincoln Sunday is recovering, thanks to the actions of a local firefighter.

After falling through the ice and into the water of Holmes Lake, the man managed to hang onto an ice shelf about 30 yards from the shore.

Lincoln Fire and Rescue spokeswoman Nancy Crist said Battalion Chief Lloyd Mueller donned an ice rescue suit and, attached to a rescue line, crawled out on the ice.

Crist says Mueller was able to secure himself to the stranded fisherman, allowing both of them to be pulled to safety by rescuers on the shore.
