Local Health Officials Praise Efforts Behind County Fairs

SCOTTSBLUFF – Panhandle Unified Command and Panhandle Public Health District executive director Kim Engel are praising the work of Nebraska Extension and local fair boards for their hard work in make sure the fairs could go forward while staying in compliance with the Governor’s Directed Health Measure.

Engel says health officials understand how important 4-H and county fairs are to Panhandle communities and have been working very diligently with each of them for a safe experience for all attending to ensure compliance

She says Nebraska Extension has done an outstanding job overall reinforcing safety practices in setting up shows, judging, and 4-H projects in a very safe manner with the fairs also organizing and coordinating for the most up-to-date safety experiences

Still, Engel cautions that all those actions mean little if fair attendees aren’t diligent in remaining in compliance with the safety precautions as well.

She says that includes wearing a mask when possible and especially if you cannot practice social distancing, washing or sanitizing hands frequently, and staying home if you’re not feeling well or experiencing any systems of COVID-19.
