Loren L. Paul was born December 5, 1941, in Gordon, Nebraska, to Vernal ‘Bud’ and Eleanor ‘Toots’ (Janssen) Paul. He left this world January 8, 2022, at Gordon Memorial Hospital surrounded by family.

Loren attended District #129 School through 8th grade and graduated from Gordon High School in 1959. Loren then attended electronics school in Denver, CO, for about one year prior to enlisting in the US Navy where he was a Radar and Electronics Technician 2nd Class.

While on a Navy ship, he taught himself to play the guitar. He was honorably discharged in May of 1964 and returned home to farm.

Loren married Shirley Elwood shortly after his discharge and together they raised three boys: Jim, Keith, and Ryan. Shirley and Loren farmed southwest of Gordon for many years, raising crops and cattle.

Loren got involved in the trucking business and as Loren Paul Trucking, he hauled cattle, grain, and hay. Upon retirement from trucking, Loren kept plenty busy with singing and serving Sheridan County as a County Commissioner for 3 terms.

Loren loved singing and playing his guitar. He and his Aunt Pauline Kearns played for dances and family gatherings. He also got to play and sing with his dad’s band, ‘Slip and Fall with Bud Paul’.

He and Shirley thoroughly enjoyed singing at the local nursing homes and sang for many friends and family members whenever he could.

Loren leaves behind his wife of 57 years Shirley, sons: Jim (Marchelle), Keith (Kristi) and Ryan (Melanie), grandkids: Jessica Paul, Jacqueline (Wade) Simonson, Jordan (Abby) Paul, Jarrod Paul, Paige (Jace) Paul, Ryder Paul; 3 step granddaughters Tosha (Courtney) Fuller, Meggin (Jason) Funk, Mindi (Daniel) Koss. Sisters Carmen Russell and Sandy (Jerry) Maddox. Sister-in-law Sharon Hardin and brother-in-law Bob (Shirley) Elwood. He is also survived by 13 great grandchildren, and many friends and family.
