Lt Gov Foley Accused Of Ignoring State Campaign Finance Law

Loading

Nebraska State Senator Adam Morfelt of Lincoln has accused Lt. Gov. Mike Foley of flouting state campaign finance law by having his own committee while Pete Ricketts’ running mate in 2014 and 2018.

Foley is now running for state auditor and Morfeld is calling for him to divest his current campaign of tens of thousands of dollars.

Nebraska law does not allow lieutenant governors to have a campaign committee separate from the governors because they both run on the same ticket.

Morfeld says Foley ignored that law and kept the campaign committee from his own aborted 2014 run for governor, even after being named now-Gov. Pete Ricketts’ running mate.

He also says Foley continued to collect money through that committee while he was lieutenant governor and is now using that money to run for state auditor.

Foley was the auditor when Gov Dave Heineman appointed him lieutenant governor in 2014 to replace Lavon Heidemann, who had resigned.
