Luella Sedivy

A memorial service for 84-year old Luella Sedivy of Hay Springs, NE, will be held Sunday, Aug 8th, at 2PM at the Hay Springs Senior Center on Main Street in Hay Springs.

Luella passed away Dec. 20, 2020, at Pioneer Manor in Hay Springs and was buried Dec. 28 in Trinity Lutheran Cemetery in Bristow, NE.

Luella Charlotte Sedivy, daughter of Frank Elmer Sedivy and Ella Clarinda Albertina Dahlberg Sedivy, was born September 14, 1936, at Lynch, NE.

She attended grade school in Randall Valley, SD, and high school in Spencer, NE, and college in Wayne, NE.

Upon completion of college, Luella taught high school English in Iowa and then Niagara Falls. Next, she taught in Spencer from 1975-77 before moving to Hay Springs, where she taught until her retirement in 1997. 

Throughout her teaching career, Luella directed numerous one-act plays and took several kids to state speech competitions. Her passion for teaching not only left an impact on her students, but her students had a tremendous impact on her life as well.

She was a member of the Protestant church and her strong faith showed through her actions as she was always willing to help anyone in need at any time. 

Luella also belonged to the Nebraska State Education Association and the Hay Springs Education Association, and was involved in CFO Camp, a church camp in the Black Hills of South Dakota.

Luella is survived by her brother, Gordon Sedivy of Bristow, NE; nephews Brian (Lori) Sedivy of Spencer, NE. David (Jodi) Sedivy of Valentine, NE; and niece, Pam (Bill) Koupal of Mitchell, SD.

She was preceded in death by her parents Frank and Ella Sedivy; sister-in-law Carol Sedivy; and nephew Bruce Sedivy.
