A small private graveside service is planned for 82-year old Madeline Marian (Garnier) Terry at the Black Hills National Cemetery.

On April 26, 1938, Madeline Marian Garnier was born at the family home near Oglala, SD on the Pine Ridge Lakota Reservation to David and Ella Garnier. On July 15, 2020, the Lord called his faithful servant Madeline home.
Her family consisted of 1 brother, Dirk Garnier, and 6 sisters, Christine Wheeler, Effy Andrew’s Garnier, Pauline Her Many Horses, Louise ‘Tiny’ (Garnier) Jumping Eagle, and Susy Tail. Sister Naomi Garnier died at an early age.
Madeline attended Isna Wica Owayawa (Loneman) School in Oglala, SD, and graduated from beauty college in Scottsbluff, NE. She was a Hair Dresser for all of her working life and her business was one of her sources of joy.
She owned and operated Madeline’s Beauty Salon in Pine Ridge for 20 years, pioneering women-owned businesses in the community.
While in Scottsbluff, Madeline met and married Dale Seydel. They had two children, Bradley Dwight Seydel and Pamela Sue (Seydel) Pinney.
Madeline married Donald Terry on April 14, 1972. They moved first to Rapid City and then to her family home near Oglala, SD on the Pine Ridge Reservation.
While there, she became active in the Makasan Presbyterian Church and was ordained as an elder. She Served that church for 18 years. Madeline was faithful to the community, helping families by offering prayers whenever requested. She traveled the US and internationally speaking for native peoples everywhere within the Presbyterian church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, David and Ella Garnier, as well as her siblings Dirk, Christine, Louise, and Effy.
Madeline is survived by two sisters, Suzy Tail and Pauline Her Many Horses; children Bradley and Pamela; five grandchildren Sid Long Pumpkin, Andrea (Pinney) Mercier, Bailey Pinney, Cory Pinney, and Sarah Seydel; three great grandchildren Leo Seydel, Isaac Pinney, and Emilia Pinney; and many nieces and nephews.
