Marco Starr

Funeral services for 26-year old Marco Starr are Monday, Oct 31, 2022 at 9:00 am at the Loneman School Gym in Oglala, SD, with Sister Barb Bogenschutz officiating and traditional Lakota services by Mr Ivis Long Visitor

Burial is that afternoon at 2:00 at the Black Hills National Cemetery in Sturgis, SD.

A two-night wake service starts Sat, Oct 29, at 3:00 at the Loneman School Gym with Rosary services at 7:00 Sat evening and Military Roll Call Sunday at 6:00.

Marco Dylan Starr was born on July 19, 1996 in Pine Ridge, SD to Brian Starr and Tammy Crow.  Marco made his journey to the Spirit World on October 20, 2022 near Oelrichs, SD. 

Marco attended grade school at Loneman and Red Cloud Middle School, and his high school years were spent at Red Cloud High School where he graduated in 2014.  

Marco enjoyed playing basketball and football in his middle school and high school years. He then attended college at Haskell in Lawrence, KS in 2014 where he graduated in 2018 on May 18.  

While at Haskell, Marco met the beautiful Tashina Jim and Odin.  They loved the game of softball and enjoyed playing and traveling to various softball tournaments.  

Two days after graduating from Haskell, Marco left for boot camp at the MCRD-San Diego, CA and after 13 weeks Marco was a proud United States Marine. He deployed to Australia, Dubai, and Okinawa, Japan, and was stationed at Camp Pendleton with his MOS a heavy equipment operator.  

While in the Marine Corps., Tashina and Marco welcomed the princess Novi Lucille Starr to their family on October 3, 2018.  Marco loved Novi so much, he was such a proud father.  Novi had her daddy wrapped around her finger.  

On May 24, 2022 Marco was honorably discharged from the United States Marine Corps and came home to his little family waiting for him in Schurz, NV.  

Marco loved to be in the weight room lifting weights and outside playing softball. Marco made many friends in his short life, too many to name each and every one; we appreciate all of you.

Marco is survived by his mother Tammy Crow; father Brian Starr; spouse Tashina Jim; daughter Novi Starr; son Odin Goseyun; brothers Morgan Starr and Andre Starr; sister Kayla (Brendan Fast Horse) Starr; grandmother, Yvonne Crow; uncles Dave (Lynette) Crow, Harold, Jr. (Robin) Crow, Burgess Bianas Jr, Frank Star Comes Out, Lloyd BIanas, and Norman “Denver” Bianas; aunts, Wendy Dale, C Roberta (Bobey) Starr, Jennifer Star Comes Out, and Sheila Pickett; cousins, JD Hopes and TJ Little; and niece, Alayah Little.  

Pallbearers will be Scotty Two Bulls, Brendan Fast Horse, Terrelle Pulliam, Bradley Hunter, Wyatt Graham, Brannon Cousin, Chandler Sampson, and Morgan Starr.

Honorary pallbearers will be Josiah Candelaria, Brandon Hoaglen, Sampson Funmaker, Cody Anderson, Troy Jim, Grant Shorty, Jaryd Wilber, David Carter USMC, Jadon Ward USMC, Eudua Miller, Harold “Chipper” Brown Bull, Red Cloud High school Graduating Class of 2014, HINU Graduating Class of 2018, Lima Company 3rd Battalion PLT 3254, and All Friends & Relatives.
