Men’s Basketball Headed South To Colorado, New Mexico

After the Chadron State College men’s basketball team split a pair of games by the narrowest of margins last weekend at home, they’ll be on the road this weekend playing Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference teams they hosted in December.

Last weekend, neither of the games the Eagles played was decided by more than three points.

The Eagles hit just three of 21 3-point shots while being edged by Adams State 59-58, but won an 88-86 heart-stopper against Pueblo 88-86 in overtime.

The CSC men are 9-13 for the season and 5-9 and 11th in the conference. It’s no secret that in order to rise to eighth place and make the RMAC playoffs, they will have to win nearly all of six of their remaining games in February.

This weekend, the Eagles will visit New Mexico Highlands in Las Vegas on Friday night and Colorado-Colorado Springs on Saturday night.

Led by 6-foot-5 Alijah Comithier’s 26 points, half of them from the free throw line, Colorado Springs won the December men’s contest in Chadron 66-60. However, CSC outscored New Mexico Highlands 40-29 in the second half and corralled the Cowboys 61-57.

Comithier continues to be a potent weapon for the Mountain Lions. He is averaging 19.5 points, fourth high in the conference, and leads the RMAC men in free throws made with 105.

Shortly after returning from this weekend’s trip, the Eagles will host Black Hills State on Tuesday night in another crucial clash. The Yellow Jackets won 83-65 when CSC visited Spearfish on January 18.

The Black Hills men feature 6-7 Joel Scott, who is the conference’s leading scorer at 22.7 points a game and he is shooting nearly 60 percent from the field.
