A Scotts Bluff County man convicted of possession of child pornography in 2012 has been sentenced to 12-½ years in federal prison for the same crime in 2021.
35-year old Richard Knott Jr of Minatare will be on supervised release for 10 years after finishing his sentence, be required to register as a sex offender, and will pay $4,000 to a fund for victims of child pornography.
The case began with an investigation of child porn being shared on 2 hyperlinks of a foreign-based cloud storage website. A review of user accounts found one whose IP address traced back to Knott with the subscriber information also coming back to him.
A federal search warrant was executed on Knott’s Minatare home in June 2021 with agents seizing 2 of his cellphones, a hard drive, and 5 laptop computers. Together the contained some 33,000 images and 7,000 videos of child pornography.
Knott was interviewed and told investigators he’d begun viewing and downloading child porn again just a year after completing his first prison sentence for it..
The case against Knott was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse launched
That’s a little steep of a sentence. Maybe 1-2 yeats tops.
