Mullen Fire Now 174,912 Acres And 25% Contained

Firefighters made more progress Saturday on the Mullen Fire, burning for more than 3 weeks in rugged terrain about 40 miles southwest of Laramie.

As of 9:00 last night, the fire was listed at 173,748 174,912 acres or 273 square miles, but only about 1,200-acres more than 24-hours earlier and crews were able to expand containment from 21% to 25%.

Incident Commander Mark Morales says the number of individuals working the fire grew by 70 and now stands at 1,224 backed by over a dozen aircraft as weather conditions allow.

Morales says a cold front will cross the fire area this morning, bringing winds gusting to near 50 mph as well as much cooler temperatures and light rain that should change to light snow in higher elevations before moving out late this afternoon.
