Name Released In Fatal MVA North Of Hot Springs

HOT SPRINGS, S.D. – The South Dakota Highway Patrol has identified a Pasco, WA, man as the person who died Friday night when his motorcycle collided with a car just north of Hot Springs.

The name of 37-year old Michael Rowland had been withheld while his family was notified.

The Patrol says Rowland was traveling south in the northbound lane of Hwy 385 a mile-and-half north of Hot Springs around 10:40 PM when his Harley Davidson hit a northbound car driven by 29-year old Andrew Johnson of Hot Springs.

Rowland, who was not wearing a helmet, was thrown from his bike and died at the scene. Johnson was taken by ambulance to a Rapid City hospital with what was described as serious but non-life threatening injuries.

Johnson’s 3 juvenile passengers, a 15-year old boy and two 13-year old girls, were each treated for minor injuries. All 4 occupants of the car were from Hot Springs and were wearing seat belts.
