The South Dakota Highway Patrol has identified the man killed in a 3-vehicle crash Friday morning at the junction of Highways 36 and 79 in Hermosa as 67-year old Jerry Ellerman of Hermosa.
Names had been withheld pending notification of family.
The Highway Patrol says Ellerman was stopped at stop sign eastbound at the intersection, then turned left to go north on Hwy 79 when his SUV collided with one driven by 56-year old Susan Boyd of Rapid City. Boyd’s SUV rolled and a southbound pickup on Hwy 79 struck both of the SUVs.
Ellerman was airlifted to a Rapid City hospital where he later died as a result of his injuries. Boyd was driven by ambulance to a Rapid City hospital with serious non-life threatening injuries, while 20-year old pickup driver Dylan Von Waldron of Box Elder was not injured.
The South Dakota Highway Patrol continues to investigate the crash and says all 3 drivers were wearing seat belts.
