HOT SPRINGS, S.D. – The South Dakota Highway Patrol has released the names of the 4 people involved in a fatal traffic accident Sunday afternoon on Highway 385 about 2 miles south of Oelrichs.
Killed was 71-year old Patsy Newman of Glencoe, Oklahoma, while her 72-year old husband Robert was hospitalized with serious but non-life threatening injuires. An Oelrichs couple, 50-year old Susan and 53-year old Roger Egly were treated at the Hot Springs hospital for minor injuries.
The Highway Patrol says Susan Egly was driving a pickup and towing a 5th-wheel trailer loaded with hay just after 2:00 PM when the trailer was rear-ended by Robert Newman, who was also driving a pickup. The impact pushed the trailer into the back of the Egly pickup.
Both couples were wearing seat belts, but Patsy Newman was declared dead after being airlifted by helicopter to Monument Health Hospital in Rapid City..Charges are pending against both Robert Newman and Susan Egly, the 2 drivers.
