Nebraska Adds 712 New COVID-19 CasesPosted by John AxtellDate: October 03, 2020782 Views The number of new and active cases of COVID-19 in Nebraska continue to grow at some of its highest levels yet. Health and Human Services reported 712 new cases Friday, pushing the total to 46,997 while the number of active cases topped 12,000 for the first time at 12,414. Another 270 recoveries were also reported for a total of 34,090 but there were no deaths after 13 had been listed on Thursday, leaving that tally at 493. The availability of hospital beds and ICU beds both improved, all beds to 31% and ICU beds to 28% while ventilators stayed at 78% available. In the west, Panhandle Unified Command reported 17 news cases, 9 recoveries, and no deaths Friday as the number of active cases rose from 95 to 102 with 3 of them hospitalized. The Panhandle has had 973 cases, 822 recoveries, and 9 deaths. Dawes County added 1 new case and 5 recoveries, pushing the totals to 137 cases, 130 recoveries, and 7 active cases. Chadron State College remains at 50 cases, 43 students and 7 staff, with 1 student and 1 staffer currently active. The Chadron Public Schools remain with 15 recoveries and 8 students and teachers in quarantine after possible exposure.
