New Year’s Day Suicide Now Murder; Suspect Indicted

A South Dakota grand jury has indicted a Rapid City man for 1st-degree murder in a shooting earlier this year that investigators say was staged to look like a suicide.

25-year-old Dion Bordeaux is accused of fatally shooting 22-year-old Jeanette Jumping Eagle in Rapid City on New Year’s Day.

Police found Jumping Eagle with a gunshot wound to the head and Investigators say Bordeaux was one of two men in the room at the time of the shooting. He was arrested on an unrelated warrant and has remained in custody since then.

The charges move Jumping Eagle’s death from suicide to murder, giving Rapid City 10 homicides so far this year – 4 more than in all of last year and the most in any year in more than a decade.
