153rd Nebraska State Fair Opens, But Illness Cancels Horse Nations Indian Relay

The 153rd Nebraska State Fair opens today in Grand Island and runs through Labor Day with a wide range of activities, vendors, and entertainment. Gates open at 9:00 CT and Opening Ceremonies at 10:00.

Unfortunately, one of the State Fair’s first entertainment events, the Horse Nations Indian Relay, has had to cancel because some of the riders are sick.

The Indian Relay had been set for today and tomorrow, but Relay Chairman Calvin Ghost Bear says the illness left them unable to field enough teams for high-quality performances at the Fair.”

Ghost Bear added that everyone “felt it was in the best interest of our teams, staff and the Nebraska State Fair to cancel the racing this weekend.”

Nebraska State Fair Executive Director Bill Ogg says everyone connected with the Fair is “terribly disappointed” about the cancellation because “many people were looking forward to seeing this unique and wild entertainment.”

All ticket buyers for the Horse Nations Indian Relay will get a refund for the full purchase price.
