SCOTTSBLUFF – Organizers have scrapped this year’s 32nd annual Sugar Valley Rally vintage car competition, and the coronavirus/COVID-19 pandemic is only partly to blame.
Race Coordinator Rachel Jenkins says the biggest factor in the decision by the Rally board to cancel the event was the inability to line up a rally master and keep the event sanctioned, with the pandemic clinching the decision.
Jenkins says their long-time rally master passed away late last year and negotiations with his intended successor fell through earlier this month. The board felt that left it with no other options since there is only a small pool of individuals and organizations sufficiently knowledgeable about sanctioning precision timed rallies.
She also says the Sugar Valley Rally board is looking for a rally master for next year, but is also exploring options for an event without a precision-timed competition.
