The Peabody Hale Fiddle Contest in Crawford returns today for its 58th edition after being cancelled last year, but there are a couple of relatively big changes from the 2019 version.
One is the location. After 2 years in the Community Building, it moves back to City Park.
The other is that instead of a set admission fee, there’s a free-will donation system in place this year.
Other than that, the event started by and named for the late musician and radio entertainer, Ellis “Peabody” Hale, remains the same.
The gates open at 8:00, the crafters and vendors begin selling at 9:00, the horseshoe tournament gets underway at 10:00, and the competition starts at 11:00 with the vocal contest.
The instrument contests, with the old-time fiddle competition the centerpiece, begin at 1:00. There will also be concessions available all day.
