Accident Early Friday Blocks Freeway Near Big Springs For 6 Hours

The Nebraska State Patrol says an unusual multi-vehicle accident that included 4 semis closed Interstates 80 and 76 near Big Springs for about 6 hours early Friday morning.

The State Patrol says the accident began when a westbound semi went off the pavement and the driver overcorrected.

The truck overturned and blocked the road, forcing several other vehicles to go into the ditch to avoid hitting it, but in the process a number of them struck each other.

The accident blocked both westbound lanes of I-80 and Colorado officials closed eastbound I-76 on their side of the state line to prevent traffic from coming into the accident area.

Three people were taken to the hospital for injuries, none of them life-threatening. The accident remains under investigation.
