Formal charges have been filed against one Pine Ridge Reservation man accused of wounding another last month at the Sheridan County Livestock Auction in Rushville.
44-year-old Gilbert Grooms was arraigned last week in Sheridan County District Court on a charge of Attempted 1st-Degree Murder, 3 counts of Felony Use of a Firearm, and single counts of 1st-Degree Assault, and Terroristic Threats.
The preliminary investigation of the June 8th incident showed Grooms and 35-year old Charles Winter of Martin had been arguing when Grooms got a shotgun from his vehicle and fired it in Winters’ direction.
Grooms fired several more times after Winters retreated to his own vehicle and hit him once in the midsection when Winters fled around a trailer.
Grooms remained at the scene while Winters was taken to Gordon Memorial Hospital, then flown to Regional West Medical Center in Scottsbluff.
Grooms is free after posting 10% of his $250,000 bond. Assistant Attorney General Doug Warner is leading the prosecution as a Special County Attorney.
