AFB Experts Identify Victims Of Pearl Harbor 79 Years Later

The remains of more than 300 sailors and Marines who died when the USS Oklahoma sank during the attack on Pearl Harbor 79 years ago have been identified thanks to the work of experts at Offutt Air Force Base near Omaha.

The 6-year effort to identify the remains of 388 men listed as missing-in-action when the Oklahoma capsized is wrapping up this week with 338 identified.

Unidentified and partial remains were initially interred in the National Military Cemetery of the Pacific in Honolulu.

The Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency disinterred them in 2015 and sent them to Offutt where DNA technology and other modern methods were used to identify as many as possible.
