Agency Head Resigns Amid Scrutiny Of Gov Noem

Loading

The director of the South Dakota Appraiser Certification Program has resigned after taking the job only last summer.

Scott Amundson declines to publicly comment on his reasons for leaving, but the agency remains under legislative scrutiny over Gov. Kristi Noem’s dealings with it in regard to her daughter’s problems in getting certified in 2020.

Amundson replaced longtime program director Sherry Bren after she was pressured to retire by Secretary of Labor and Regulation Marcia Hultman, an episode that’s drawn criticism from government ethics experts.

Bren sued for age discrimination and the state settled for $200,000. The entire chain of events is currently being investigated by a legislative committee. Amundson had no role at the agency during that time
