ORIGINAL STORY

All Chadron schools and Chadron State College are currently on Lockout as law enforcement searches for two individuals wanted in connection with a shooting Sunday in Pine Ridge.

Under Lockout, normal class activities have continued and Chadron school officials say normal dismissal times remain in effect with parents to pick up students. Students will not be allowed to walk home, but high schools students can drive themselves or friends home.

Chadron Police Chief Rick Hickstein says the Chadron dispatch center was contacted a little after 2:00 pm by the Oglala Sioux Dept of Public Safety and told a high-speed chase that began on the Pine Ridge Reservation was approaching Chadron.

Hickstein says the suspect vehicle was spotted by Chadron officers as it passed Wahlstrom Ford on the extreme east side of town, but that the two occupants – a male and female, both Native American, abandoned it in the 200 block of Cedar Street.

No physical description of the suspects was available, but the male was wearing a flat cap and a red hooded sweatshirt while the female was wearing a pink crop top.

Hickstein emphasizes the Lockout, with all doors locked and no one admitted into buildings, was requested as a precaution with a “potential threat in the community.”
