Alliance Changes Revenue Split For Proposed New Sales Tax

ALLIANCE – Alliance voters will be deciding on a new half-cent sales tax at the May primary, but how the money would be used is a little different from the original plan.

The sales tax vote resolution approved by the city council at the start of the month called for earmarking all the revenue for streets, but the council last week exchanged that plan for one that gives streets 75% of the month and 25% for other types of infrastructure such as sewer, water, and storm sewer lines.

The Alliance Chamber of Commerce and the Box Butte Development Corporation boards at this time are not planning to campaign for or against the new sales tax, instead simply putting out accurate and unbiased information about it.
