Alliance Council Picks Oregon County Administrator As City ManagerPosted by John AxtellDate: February 24, 2021 6:12 amLeave a comment284 Views The Alliance City Council has offered the job of city manager to a county administrator from Oregon. Jeff Hecksel of Hood River was selected on a 4-1 vote over former Claremore, OK, city manager James Thomas. Alliance Mayor Mike Dafney says the city is now negotiating contract details with Hecksel, including his start date. Assistant City Manager/Finance Director Randy Waggener and City Clerk Tarrah Johnson have been covering the city manager’s duties since the unexpected resignation in September of Jeff Sprock. Hecksel and Thomas were actually the second group of finalists for the position. The city council rejected the first group in December after interviews and reopened applications. Hecksel and Thomas came to Alliance for interviews last week, and Mayor Dafney told KNEB News he felt the council members liked Hecksel’s experience and management style. Hecksel has been Hood River County Administrator since 2016, but before that was a city manager for 17 years – the first 6 in Monmouth, OR, and the other 11 in Glenwood Springs, Colo.
