RAPID CITY, S.D. (AP) – A Rapid City man is in custody for murder following a Saturday night assault at a Rapid City motel.
29-year old Lawrence Mexican is being held for 2nd-Degree Murder awaiting formal charges. The name of the victim is being withheld until the full family is notified.
Rapid City police say a report of an assault at the motel came in about 10:00 pm and when officers arrived at the room they found the victim unresponsive. They administered life-saving measures, but when EMTs arrived they determined he was dead.
Multiple witnesses identified Mexican as the dead man’s attacker and he was found by police about 5 hours later, sleeping just south of an overflow parking lot at the Rushmore Plaza Civic Center. Mexican was taken into custody after officers saw blood on his shoes and socks.
