Bouchard Staying In Wyo Congressional Race

The U-S House candidate and Wyoming state senator who disclosed that when he was 18 he impregnated and married his 14-year-old girlfriend says he’s still planning on running and serving in the legislature.

Anthony Bouchard held a news conference Monday during which he scoffed at the idea of dropping out of the race and challenged any lawmakers who might make an issue of his past.

Bouchard told any colleagues who might be considering a censure to “bring it on.”  He then refused to answer questions about the incident 31 years ago.

Bouchard disclosed it in a video to supporters last week in which he blamed “dirty politics for doing so – saying he made it after a reporter and a political consulting firm that specializes in negative campaigning contacted him about the incident.

Bouchard has declined to give any details about the girl, who married him after she bore his son and who killed herself at age 20 in 1990, the year after they divorced.

Bouchard is among at least 8 Republicans running against Congresswoman Liz Cheney in next year’s primary for Wyoming’s lone U-S House seat.

All have cited Cheney’s vote to impeach Donald Trump of the Jan 6 attack on the U-S Capitol and her repeated attacks on Trump for his unsubstantiated claims that he lost last year’s election because of massive voter fraud.
