Chadron Approves Revised NPPD Contract

CHADRON – Chadron has approved an agreement to continue leasing the city’s electrical to Nebraska Public Power District for another 25 years. The contract ratified Monday night by the city council updates the agreement signed in 2004 and updated in 2017.

City Manager Greg Yanker told the council that the changes to the Professional Retail Operations Agreement are generally minor, but opens up some new options for the city.

NPPD representative Terry Rajewich told the council that if it wanted to increase the lease rate from 12% to 14%, it could do so only a half-percent at a time.

Another provision allows the city to expand the lease to include collecting the fee on the bills paid by the city, school district, and other entities that receive the city’s 33% rate reduction.
