The Chadron City Council has decided to invite 4 finalists for city manager to come to town for interviews, but they don’t know exactly who they are.
At a special meeting Monday night, the council identified 6 of the 9 semifinalists as worthy of being finalists and ranked them. The top 4 will get offers for interviews with the other 2 moving up should any of the 4 decline.
Mayor Mark Werner says he and fellow council members Cheryl Welch, Keith Crofutt, and Joe Johndreau feel very good about all 6 under consideration but won’t hesitate to start the search over if need be.
Werner says the semifinalists offer a nice blend of experience and potential.
The council hopes to have the 4 finalists in for interviews and to meet with city employees and community leaders in mid-April, but the details haven’t been set yet.
No names have been released and under Nebraska law may remain private until the pool of finalists for interviews is confirmed, which should be in the next few days.
We do know that councilman Miles Bannan will not be among that group. He was an applicant and has not take part in the search process, but last night’s meeting included a discussion on whether he would vote for the final choice.
The other council members felt it was appropriate that Bannan not be part of the selection decisions on the finalists, but should be part of the discussion and vote for the new city manager.
