Chadron Council To Consider Apartment Building Project With TIF Tonight

Loading

The Chadron City Council meets twice tonight, at 5:30 as the City Redevelopment Agency board and at 6:00 as the council – with a proposed  4-story, 78-unit apartment building a key item for both.

The City Planning Commission last week unanimously recommended approval of the nearly $11-million dollar Heartland Flats Apartments on Maple Street between 6th and 8th Streets.

Developer Park Street Apartments is proposing 77,000-square feet on 2.3-acres with a 20,000-square-foot L-shaped apartment building, a 2,400-square-foot garage, and about 130 paved parking spots.

The developers are asking for $1.9-million dollars in TIF – tax increment financing – bonds from the city. If the council approves the overall project as the Redevelopment Authority, the council meeting will include a public hearing on the TIF request.

The council agenda also includes approval of a new interlocal agreement to bring back the College Resource Officer position at Chadron State College, an agreement already passed by the state college trustees.

Other agenda items include the second reading of an ordinance revamping the city’s administrative structure and formal acceptance of a million dollar grant from the FAA for a new wildlife fence at the airport.
