Chadron High Teacher To Help Develop National History Day Student GuidesPosted by John AxtellDate: February 24, 2021 10:49 pmLeave a comment483 Views Chadron High School history teacher Mike Sandstrom is one of 15 teachers from around the country selected by National History Day® to help create new student guides for the five History Day project categories. History Day Executive Director Dr Cathy Gorn says Sandstrom and the other teachers will work directly with her group and staff from the Library of Congress to write and test a series of 5 student guides that will eventually be distributed online. Gorn says the guides on the documentary, exhibit, paper, performance, and website categories will help students find, analyze, and integrate primary sources from the Library of Congress into their National History Day projects. Gorn says Sandstrom and the other teachers bring “many years of classroom and project-based teaching experience” to the project, which will benefit National History Day participants for many years to come. The 15 teachers come from 13 different states, but Sandstrom – a Chadron native and graduate of both Chadron High and Chadron State College, is the only one from the Northern Great Plains. This isn’t the first time his skills and experience have been recognized. He was the 2029 Nebraska History Teach of the year, a finalist for overall Teacher of the Year this year, and recipient of the Neb Dept of Education Award of Excellence.
