CHADRON – Officials with Panhandle Public Health District and Chadron Public Schools say a parent of a Chadron student is being tested for COVID-19, the coronavirus disease.
Superintendent Dr Caroline Winchester says PPHD contacted the district about the situation Tuesday and emphasized there was “no cause for alarm.” The test results will be released as soon as they are available in 24-48 hours.
Winchester says the district has had a number of planning meetings with PPHD and the other agencies making up the Panhandle Unified Command to be prepared for just such an occurrence.
Winchester says the parent and student have both followed the recommendation of health officials to self-quarantine with the parent also following proper procedures by calling their health care provider before seeking treatment.
The COVID-19 threat has no immediate impact on the Chadron school district because school is out for spring break. Winchester says the situation will be reevaluated after the COVID-19 test results are in and as the return to classes gets closer.
